Lean into Your Creative Pings

Have you ever felt a pull toward something, like an inner nudge to explore a new hobby or passion? I believe those moments are no coincidence.

I don't think it’s any coincidence that creating came into my life when it did. The past year has been a massive year of healing and self-discovery, and I can't imagine going through all of it without this outlet. I felt the call to start painting about six months before I even knew I would be diving head-first into my soul's journey.

It was Christmas time, and I had conjured a little list of things I might like to have as gifts for my husband to work off of. On that list, I had watercolors, watercolor paper, and brushes. But my husband went in a different direction with my presents that year, and it was still great! But I put my desire for these painting tools on the shelf. It wasn't until six months later that my best friend got herself some paints, and I was inspired again to go out and get some for myself as well. This was right around the same time I had started therapy.

I have not stopped painting since.

Nearly every day, I am painting, drawing, writing, or creating in some form. I had no idea it would be a passion point in my life or that I would love it so much. And from here on out, it will always be a huge part of my life. It literally felt like I had discovered a missing piece of myself. Along the way, creating has opened me up to so much more of myself, for which I am grateful. I find myself sometimes wishing I knew my love for painting years ago! But I let those feelings come and go, and I remain grateful I found it now instead of never at all.

I want to share this because I think we should listen to these pings of creativity. They come to us for reasons we don’t always know or understand, but creativity serves a greater purpose in our lives, and those pings are no coincidence. These nudges might be a passing thought, a sudden curiosity, or even just a gentle urge to pick up a paintbrush, write a story, or try something new. They’re worth paying attention to. If you ever have the call for creation, do it. It doesn't have to be the missing piece in your life or be some grand revelation of an experience. No matter what, creativity brings you joy, flow, connection, purpose, and growth. If you’ve already taken that leap, I’d love to hear how it’s impacted your life—feel free to share in the comments! Here are ways your call to creating can impact your life as it has mine:

  • It’s helping me heal emotionally

  • It’s helping me learn more about myself

  • It’s forcing me to loosen up

  • It’s bringing a sense of peace

  • It’s bringing me joy

  • It’s making my internal world more vibrant and full of ideas

  • It’s helping me see my external world differently
